A few youths were arrested around the funeral of former minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain in Chittagong and there were allegations of beating up school students. Expressing deep concern in this incident, his son Mahbub Rahman demanded the release of those arrested.
In a social media post, Mahbub Rahman claimed that on Thursday, May 14, in Chittagong city and Mirsrai, people from all walks of life, regardless of party affiliation, bid farewell to Engineer Mosharraf Hossain with great respect. People of various political ideologies including government, administration, media workers participated in the funeral.
However, complaining of some untoward incidents after the janaza, he said that some young people were arrested after some emotional people shouted ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans after the janaza in the city.
At the same time, he also alleged that some schoolboys who participated in the funeral in Mirsrai were beaten to death. According to him, many schoolboys have been beaten up just for participating in the funeral, which is very painful. Mahbub Rahman strongly condemned these incidents and demanded the immediate release of those arrested.
However, there was no official statement from the law enforcement agencies regarding the allegations. It has not been confirmed whether any written complaint has been filed so far in the case of arrest or beating.
