In the sensational case of raping a teenage girl in the city of Palermo, Italy, the country’s court sentenced Alauddin (38), a Bangladeshi youth, to 14 years in prison. In addition to the prison sentence, the court also ordered him to pay a fine of 1 lakh euros. But the sensational information is that he left Italy on the eve of the verdict and is currently on the run.
On June 7, 2025, a 14-year-old girl of Moroccan origin was raped in a shop in the Via Rifferdico area of Palermo. When the victim’s family filed a complaint with the police, after a long investigation, the court found Alauddin guilty on January 12 of this year and gave this harsh sentence.
According to local sources and bank information, Alauddin planned to leave the country during the trial. He collected about 1 lakh 50 thousand euros (about 2 crores in Bangladeshi currency) from various individuals and banks. Allegedly, he fled to Bangladesh with the help of his elder brother just a day before the verdict, that is on January 11. The local police confirmed his escape.
It is said that the family of Sumon Mia, a former employee of the store in Italy, is being harassed in Bangladesh due to this incident. Suman Mia has claimed that a false case has been filed against her family in Bangladesh. His father was detained for two days. Anger has arisen as to why Alauddin’s crime is being blamed on another family.
This heinous crime and Alauddin’s escape to escape punishment has sparked strong condemnation and outrage among the Bangladeshi community in Italy. Expatriates say, as a result of such heinous crime, the image of Bangladesh is seriously damaged in foreign soil. They immediately demanded that the fugitive Alauddin be brought under the law.
Local police in Italy said international contacts and investigations are continuing to track down the culprit. However, there is no official statement from the concerned higher authorities regarding the accused’s current location or escape.
