NCP leader Sarjis Alam and Dr. for spreading rumours. Mahmuda Mitu should apologize publicly, commented the higher council member and media coordinator Abu Hanif of the People’s Rights Council.
He made this comment in a status on social media Facebook on Saturday (May 23).
Abu Hanif writes, when allegations were leveled against Chhatra Dal or BNP, they were called ‘weapon’. But when a similar item was seen in the hand of an NCP worker, it was called a ‘self defense stick’. How can this double standard be acceptable?
He said, if there is a minimum of honesty and morality in politics, the same standards should be applied to all in the same incident. When the interpretation changes depending on individuals or groups, it is no longer justice or impartiality, but rather a manifestation of political opportunism.
He also said, the saddest thing is, at the beginning Sarjis Alam and Dr. Mahmuda Mitu spread misleading information and rumors on social media without verification. Later they deleted the post in the face of criticism. But deleting the post does not end the responsibility. Because once a rumor spreads, it creates confusion, tension and political hatred in the society. So they should publicly apologize for spreading rumours.
Abu Hanif also said, at the same time, I want to say clearly that the way some BNP leaders and activists attacked in Jhenaidah is not acceptable in any way. There may be political differences, there may be harsh criticism. But responding to it through attacks, intimidation or violence can never be the language of democratic politics.
He said those involved in the attack should be brought to justice through an impartial investigation. Because impunity only encourages more violence. We must remember that in politics there will be dissent, criticism and arguments. But violence is never the solution. The strength of democracy lies in reason, tolerance and political culture. Not by attack or rumor.
