US President Donald Trump walked out of an interview on the popular NBC News program Meet the Press. He left the interview after a heated exchange with host Kristen Welker over demands for evidence to support his allegations of fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
In the interview, Trump reiterated long-standing complaints about the US election system and claimed that the 2020 election was rigged. However, when moderator Welker asked for concrete evidence in favor of these claims, a heated debate began between the two.
At one stage of the debate, Trump called the mainstream media ‘corrupt’ and ‘biased’. He also accused major media outlets like NBC, ABC, CBS and CNN of one-sided propaganda.
When Welker repeatedly called for evidence to support his claims of election fraud, Trump said there was “overwhelming evidence” to support his allegations. But he did not present any specific evidence.
When the debate reached its climax, Trump told the moderator, “Let’s end it here today. There’s been a lot of reasons. Thank you, darling.” He then opened his microphone and left the interview room.
Welker pleaded with him to stay, but Trump said he had given enough time. Before leaving, he said, “No country can ever be great with a dishonest media.”
This incident brought the much-talked-about interview to a dramatic end.
