Dhanmondi area 27 of the capital, protesting against the brutal rape and killing of children in measles, a huge gathering of protesting artists and people was held. The day-long rally on Saturday turned into a mass awakening with spontaneous participation of people from all walks of life.
In addition to common people, representatives of the country’s cultural arena came down to the streets to show solidarity in this protest meeting. Artists from all walks of life, including music, painting, recitation, drama, film, dance and literature, simultaneously expressed their anger and protest against this atrocity.
The artistes at the gathering expressed strong condemnation against the current culture of lawlessness and violence in the country through various protest songs, poetry recitations and street plays. The painters painted the language of protest on the canvas on the streets.
Not only cultural persons, conscious citizens and common people from various professions of the society joined this gathering. Dhanmondi area was full of voices of thousands of people with banners, festoons and placards. There was an uproar with slogans demanding speedy arrest of the culprits and exemplary punishment.
A common citizen who came to the meeting said, this brutality can no longer be tolerated. For the safety of our children, for a healthy society, everyone has to leave their homes and take to the streets.
At the end of the meeting, the speakers said, the people of the country will no longer tolerate injustice and torture. This unprecedented gathering of artists and people proves that a new awakening has been created among the common people. No one can suppress this spontaneous renaissance of people who have their backs against injustice.
The speakers strongly demanded that murderers and rapists involved in rape and murder of children should be given maximum punishment through speedy trial tribunals. Otherwise the rally ended with a warning of a larger movement.
