Chhatra Jamiat Bangladesh has expressed deep concern and strong condemnation over the murder of Ramisa Akhtar, a class II student in Pallavi, Capital. The top leaders of the organization mentioned this barbaric incident as ‘a cruel reflection of the culture of lawlessness going on in the country’.
In a joint statement sent to the media on Wednesday (May 20), Central President of Chhatra Jamiat Bangladesh Ridwan Mazhari and General Secretary Saad Bin Zakir said that the recovery of Ramisa’s dismembered body from the flat next to his house has shaken the conscience of the countrymen. The monstrosity in which the child is killed and beheaded and the body hidden under the bed is unimaginable in any civilized society.
In the statement, the leaders alleged that there was already a case against the main accused Sohail Rana under the Anti-Terrorism Act. But due to the culture of impunity, there was no exemplary punishment for him. As a result, he has the courage to commit greater crimes. The free movement of criminals of such depraved tastes in the society is an extreme threat to the lives of common people.
They also said that while Ramisa’s mother was frantically searching for her child, the killer Sohail Rana managed to escape by cutting the window grill. This incident indicates the fragile state of law and order situation in the country. If this situation continues, children will no longer be safe. The Chhatra Jamiat leaders strongly demanded immediate trial of the killer Sohail Rana and his accomplices through a special tribunal and ensure maximum punishment ‘hanging’.
Notably, Class II student Ramisa was brutally murdered after being raped in Royapallavi. There has been intense discussion and criticism in the political and social arena since the locals claimed Sohail Rana’s Jamaat affiliation for being involved in this incident.
