The hoisting of national and party flags at a locked and abandoned Awami League office in Baufal Upazila of Patuakhali has created a lot of excitement and curiosity among the local people. Police have started investigation to find out who planted these two flags in the dark of night.
Lastly on Sunday around 11:30 AM, the party flag was not seen in front of the office, but the national flag was seen flying.
Local residents said that around 11 pm on Saturday, passers-by saw national and party flags flying at the stand in front of the first office. At that time the office was completely locked. They are surprised by such a mysterious incident in a locked office on the side of a busy road near Baufal police station. They demanded to immediately investigate the matter seriously and identify those involved.
According to party sources, this separate office was set up by District Awami League joint general secretary and former mayor of Baufal Municipality Ziaul Haque Jewell next to Baufal police station due to political dispute with local MP and former Chief Whip AS Feroze during the previous Awami League government. It is locally known as the ‘Jewel Group Office’.Note, on August 5, 2024, during the anti-discrimination student-Janata movement, Baufal Upazila Awami League head office ‘Janata Bhavan’ was set on fire. Currently, former Chief Whip ASM Feroze is jailed in multiple cases and former Mayor Ziaul Haque Jewel is reported to be absconding.
In this regard, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Baufal police station Sirajul Islam said that the matter is being seriously investigated since the incident came to light. Efforts are on to identify who hoisted the flag in the locked office and for what purpose. Necessary legal action will be taken against those involved subject to investigation.
