An old man named Abdul Jalil (60) has been accused of raping a fifth grade schoolgirl by inviting her to her home in Chatmohar, Pabna.
The incident took place at Kamalpur Kumarpara village of DBgram union of the upazila at around 7 pm on Tuesday (19 May). The accused old man is the son of deceased Miyajan Pramanik of that village.
The victim is a class five student of a local primary school. In this incident, the mother of the child, the victim of rape, filed a case at Chatmohar police station as a plaintiff.
According to the case and local sources, on Tuesday evening, the child was sent by his mother to fetch coils from a shop near the house.
About this time, the neighbor grandfather Abdul Jalil sweeps the child’s house with the lure of giving him food. Later, when the child went to sweep the house, Abdul Jalil grabbed her from behind and held her face and raped her.
There was no one in the house at that time. The child then went home crying instead of going to the shop and narrated the incident to his family.
In the night, the girl’s mother filed a case against the accused Abdul Jalil under the Prevention of Women and Child Abuse Act at the police station. Meanwhile, the accused Abdul Jalil fled from the area after the incident.
Chatmohar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Golam Mostafa said that the child’s mother has filed a case with the police station. The child was sent to Pabna Onestop Crisis Center on Wednesday for medical examination. As the accused Abdul Jalil was absconding, he could not be arrested. However, the police operation continued.
