Sohel Rana, a resident of Mathbari village of Jessore Sadar Upazila, has been accused of taking advantage of partner’s land under influence, cheating and changing political identity. He is the son of Rabiul Islam of the same village.
According to local sources, Sohail Rana has tried to strengthen his position by changing his political identity in the area in the last few years. It is alleged that before August 5, he was involved in the politics of the banned Bangladesh Awami League. However, after the political change, the locals alleged that he changed the party with an opportunistic position.
Furthermore, locals claimed that he was involved with the politics of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami before the national elections. It is also alleged that he is trying to influence the new identity in the area by changing his political position again after the election.
Victims and many local people said that Sohail Rana is dominating the area by using that influence as he has good relations with some officials of the administration. He has also been accused of taking control over the land of the partners by creating disputes.
Local sources also said that Sohail Rana has not sold the land to a person named Shafiqul but has not disclosed the land for a long time. There is extreme anger among the buyers and other owners of the land.
Victims complain that many are afraid to speak publicly against Sohail Rana. Because he has created a kind of influential position in the area by using the change of political identity and administrative influence.
However, Sohail Rana denied the allegations and said, Rafiqul is not giving me the land of Sharik. About that my uncle. He is a controversial person. He has been angry with me ever since he presided over the local mosque. Yesterday he attacked my parents. I have done GD at the police station. I have nothing to do with him about the land.
