The release of the main accused in the murder case of local BNP leader and businessman Alamgir Hossain, who was publicly shot dead in Jessore, has caused extreme anxiety, anger and insecurity in the family of the victim.
Shamima Begum, the wife of deceased Alamgir Hossain, made these allegations in a press conference organized at Press Club Jessore on Tuesday at 12 noon. During this time, his daughter Ilara Khatun Ratri and other family members were present.It was informed in the press conference that after receiving bail from the High Court on April 28, Based Ali Parash, the main accused in the case and son-in-law of the victim, was released from Jessore Central Jail on April 30. They claim that the family has been under threat and fear ever since his release.
According to the family, Alamgir Hossain, Joint General Secretary of Ward No. 7 of Nagar BNP and owner of Greenland Properties, was brutally shot dead in front of his house on Ishaq Road in Shankarpur area of Jessore city on the afternoon of January 3 this year. A few miscreants including Based Ali Parash and Asabul Islam Sagar came on a motorcycle and fired at him. He died on the spot.
A murder case was registered at Kotwali police station the next day on January 4. Later, the police chief arrested the two accused and sent them to jail and they also reportedly gave a confessional statement in court.
However, with the prime accused released on bail in just four months, the family has expressed deep concern for their safety.
In the press conference, Shamima Begum complained that since the accused’s father is a lawyer and a former public representative and the accused himself is associated with the legal profession, he got quick bail by using legal opportunities. He further said that the accused used to threaten us in various ways even during their imprisonment. Now he is out on bail and is threatening directly and through people.
He claimed that the main accused’s sister, along with their accomplices, are being intimidated in various ways, due to which the family is suffering from extreme insecurity.
Relatives of the deceased, Redwan Hossain, Inamul and Tabibur Rahman and many others were present at the press conference.
The family of the deceased has strongly demanded the administration to cancel the bail of the accused and ensure their safety.
