Four people, including women and children, were killed in a horrific three-way road accident at Chaulia oil pump area on Jessore-Khulna highway. The accident took place at Chaulia area under Kotwali Model Police Station of Jessore Sadar Upazila around 11:30 am on Saturday (May 23). Two others were seriously injured in the incident.
According to police, fire service and local sources, a speeding heavy vehicle from Khulna to Jessore lost control and hit a van first. Later, an easybike in front was hit hard, resulting in a terrible three-way collision. Easybike driver Mohammad Ayub Ali (43) and Rishti Saha (24) were killed on the spot. Anor Ali (70) died after being taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Four-year-old children Souvik Saha and Sajjad Hossain (28) were seriously injured in the accident. Locals rescued them and admitted them to Jessore General Hospital. Later, the child Sauvik Saha died while undergoing treatment. With this, the death toll has increased to four.Deceased Ayub Ali son of deceased Hasan Ali Molla of Ghuni Purbapara area of Jessore. Drishti Saha is wife of Sujan Saha of Ghoragacha Sahapara area and son of deceased Kalu Sheikh of Anor Ali Chaulia area.
After the accident, local residents, police and fire service personnel conducted a rescue operation and sent the injured to the hospital. In this incident, traffic was disrupted on the highway for some time.
Kotwali Model Thana police said that the vehicle involved in the accident has been impounded. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation and necessary legal action is under process.
