India’s new High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi met the country’s President Draupadi Murmu. At this time he received ‘Letters of Credence’ from the President in order to fulfill his official duties as High Commissioner of India in Bangladesh.

This information was confirmed through a post on the verified Facebook page of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Friday (June 5) night.

Dinesh Trivedi can be seen formally receiving the Letters of Credence from the President of India Draupadi Murmu in a picture posted by the High Commission. The Indian High Commission has said that the new High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi will arrive in Dhaka soon to take over his official duties.

Earlier, former Union Minister and BJP leader Dinesh Trivedi was appointed as the country’s new High Commissioner to Bangladesh last April. He is succeeding professional diplomat Prannoy Verma. Outgoing High Commissioner Prannoy Verma has already joined as India’s Ambassador to Brussels.

Dinesh Trivedi’s appointment is being viewed very seriously in diplomatic circles. For the first time in the 55-year history of Bangladesh’s independence, New Delhi is sending a high-profile politician directly involved in active politics as High Commissioner to Dhaka. Earlier only professional diplomats (IFS officers) were appointed as Indian ambassadors in Bangladesh.

Analysts believe that the arrival of this former Union Minister in Dhaka will add a new dimension to the bilateral and political relations between the two countries.
