Nahid Islam demands withdrawal of Home Minister’s statement on border killings

Convenor of Jatiya Nagrik Party Nahid Islam has commented on the statement given by Home Minister Salah Uddin Ahmad regarding the killing of a Bangladeshi

Convenor of Jatiya Nagrik Party Nahid Islam has commented on the statement given by Home Minister Salah Uddin Ahmad regarding the killing of a Bangladeshi citizen by the Indian forces on the border as ‘extremely offensive and insulting’.

He made this comment in a notification sent to the media on Saturday (June 6) night.

Nahid Islam said, it is shameful for the nation to hear such a statement from a responsible person of the government. He complained that even after three days, the Home Minister did not withdraw his statement and the government did not condemn it.

In relation to the recent border killings, Home Minister Salah Uddin Ahmed said, “If you know the details of what you call border killing, I will be happy.” Border Killing If killing is done by the forces of other countries at our border or zero line, we can call it border killing. But if someone is involved in a crime within our borders or within their borders, or someone is illegally trespassing, they will deal with it according to their own laws. It is not right to call it border killing.

Criticizing this statement of the Home Minister, Nahid Islam said that this position is in conflict with international human rights laws and international agreements. He claimed that even if there is an allegation of illegal invasion or any other crime, the use of lethal force is not legal under international law.

Nahid Islam also said that former foreign minister AK Abdul Momen had made similar statements about border killings in the past. He complained that the government’s stance on border killings is causing concern among the people.

In the notice, the NCP convener demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Home Minister’s statement and the government’s clear stand on the border killings.
