The increase in fuel oil prices has affected public transport. According to the new decision, the bus fare has been increased by 11 paise per kilometer across the country, including the capital Dhaka and Chittagong.

This decision was taken in the meeting held on Thursday (April 23) in the conference room of the Road Transport and Highways Department at the Secretariat. The meeting was attended by representatives of transport owners and workers, officials of the relevant departments.

At the end of the meeting, Road Transport Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam said that the fare has been increased by 11 paise per kilometer in Dhaka and Chittagong metropolitan areas and long-distance buses. The same rate will be applicable for inter-district transport also.

Earlier, the Transport Owners Association proposed to increase the fare by 22 paise per km. But after the discussion, the government approved half the increase.

According to sources in the meeting, this decision has been taken due to the increased expenditure in the transport sector due to the increase in the price of fuel oil. With the new fares coming into force, passengers will have to pay additional fares, which will put new pressure on the daily expenses of the common man.

Meanwhile, necessary instructions have been given to the authorities concerned to implement the decision to increase the rent.
