The law minister commented that there is no mention of July mass uprising and July Charter in the recent leaflet of the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami in the National Parliament. Asaduzzaman. According to him, Jamaat-e-Islami’s stance on the referendum was ‘half love, half deception’.
On Wednesday (April 29) in Parliament, the Law Minister said, ‘Why the opposition party wants reforms, there (the leaflet) has given a few points. Nowhere in this point is the July charter mentioned.
He said here, I have explained the referendum. The referendum was deviated from the July Charter. That is a fraud on the constitution and that is a fraud on the law. The July National Charter, which was signed by 33 political parties, is not marked in the leaflet.’
He said there were four questions in the referendum. BNP never had any objection regarding its three and a half questions. The other half of the question, that half question is ‘half love, half deception’.
The minister said, this parliament wants to build a Bangladesh in the coming days, which is achieved through the spirit of the liberation war of 1971.
We can move the country forward by embracing the spirit of the mass uprisings of the 90s and 24s. We have seen in countries around the world, revolutions have taken place. The French Revolution happened, the July Spring came, the Arab Spring came, the Orange Spring came—all springs were followed by a compromise between the country’s political parties. The basis of that compromise was the mass uprising. The spirit of mass upheaval that we see, I note with great sadness, does not exist.
He said, while reading it (leaflet), it seemed that there is a theory of 33 A pass. After reading this, I felt that I am at the stage of passing 33. 33 A pass came in 1854, the time when the matriculation examination began in the subcontinent. Then the passing marks in Britain were 65 marks. The British thought that the people of this subcontinent were half as intelligent as the British. So they scored 32 and a half pass marks. There it was 65, here it is 32 and a half. Four years later in 1962 it was increased to 33. I think they wrote in such a way, am I still half-educated like that 33 A pass? Where the July mass coup, the July Charter has no word.
