Making a proposal to honor the freedom fighters, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid said, ‘We who are in this parliament do not sell the spirit of the liberation war, we hold it.’

Proposing the use of the word ‘Veer’ before the name of the freedom fighter, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs said, ‘If the name of the freedom fighter is called ‘Veer Muktijoddha’, if we introduce it inside the Parliament, we can say it outside as well. So I think, there is a young generation, the new generation can also know.’

On the 24th day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament on Wednesday (April 29), the State Minister stood on the point of order in the discussion of the motion of thanks on the President’s speech.

Shama Obaid said, ‘Yesterday the liberation war was discussed in this great parliament. Then I thought, since we who are in this parliament, we do not sell the spirit of the liberation war, we hold it. That’s why I think, there are some freedom fighters among those who are brave freedom fighters and you also told us that those who are sitting in our opposition party. If their name is preceded by the word freedom fighter and then the name is said, then it seems that those who have the young generation, the new generation can also know.

Freedom fighters are also given an honor. If we introduce it inside the parliament, we can say it and do it outside the parliament.’

At this time the Speaker said, “Some changes have already been made in the definition of a freedom fighter, and the Parliament has also approved it.” A freedom fighter is one who has fought with arms, all others are freedom fighters’ helpers, this definition has changed.

I don’t know how many people have fought here. However, we usually talk about seat-based identity in Parliament. The identity of the freedom fighter is implied here, but if we are sure that someone who has fought in arms falls under the definition of a real freedom fighter, then an attempt will be made to mention him in that way.’
