Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed commented on this after Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Emir and Member of Parliament Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher claimed himself as a ‘child freedom fighter’. He said, “I discovered anew today that our member of parliament, Abdullah Mohammad Taher, is a child freedom fighter. I welcome him.’
He said this while participating in the discussion of the motion of thanks on the President’s speech in Parliament on Thursday (April 30).
When the parliamentarians laughed at this remark of the Home Minister, he said, “I do not hesitate to show respect to anyone, Honorable Speaker.”
He also said, ‘I like that our opposition leader claims himself as the son of a freedom fighter family. A few freedom fighters are also there.’
Earlier in Parliament, Jamaat Member of Parliament Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said, ‘We who are sitting here, none of us were Razakars, none were Albadars.
We are the leadership in Jamaat-e-Islami. If you talk about liberation war like that, I am also a child freedom fighter.’
He said, ‘My house is on the border. During the war, those who migrated to India, came and took shelter in our yard.
We used to feed them breakfast. And we would guard whether the army was patrolling or not, when the army patrol was away, we would guide them (those going to India)—so that they could cross over to India.’
