Shaqib Al Hasan is out of the country since August 5, 2024. New York is his home. Although he expressed his desire to return to the country and retire, the situation is still not under his control. In a special interview with the Indian media Sportstus, he indicated the timing of his return to the country.

Shakib said about the situation in Bangladesh and his return to the team, the situation in Bangladesh can change suddenly. You never know what tomorrow will bring, and that’s why I’m still optimistic. I don’t think too much about what will happen. Every day I try to move forward with my family. Whenever I get a chance to play, I use that opportunity. But I don’t think I have control over the matter of returning to the Bangladesh team. But I am trying to find a solution.’

Said Shakib about that solution, ‘I haven’t fully thought about it yet. But I am hopeful that everything will be resolved by the end of the year. For now, I’m just waiting for something good. One thing is certain — I have to return to Bangladesh. The only question is, how fast is that possible? But I am positive that I will be back by the end of the year. I don’t know exactly how, but I’m really hopeful.’

Regarding his retirement from the game, Shakib said, ‘It is not that I want to retire after playing just one more match. I am still physically fit and believe, I still have a lot to give. I have performed well in recent matches by the almighty’s grace, so that confidence is still there.’

After that, he said, ‘I don’t want to be in a position where I will be a burden on the team just because of a farewell match. As long as I feel like I’m contributing, I want to keep playing. I believe, I still have that ability in me. It might take me a month to get back to full fitness, but yes, that desire to play at home again will always be there.’
