Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has said that there is no chance for Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DACSU) VP Sadiq Qaim to be a candidate for the mayoral post of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). This was informed in an urgent announcement sent by Central Publicity Secretary SM Farhad.
The announcement given by the student camp on Friday (May 1) said, “The news of announcing a central official of the student camp as the mayoral candidate of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka South is being circulated on some online portals.”
‘For the information of all, it is being informed that Islami Chhatra Shibir is not allowed to participate in elections or be a candidate for any other political party while in charge at any stage.
Even from any political party there is no opportunity to announce him as a candidate.’
‘If someone joins a political party or becomes a candidate for election after leaving the Islami Chhatra Shibir, it is a personal decision of the person concerned. Therefore, it is requested that no one should be confused by such news about any incumbent of the current session.’
In this regard, Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General and Head of Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubair told the media that one can give suggestions or recommendations, but this is not a final decision.
The name of whomever the central Jamaat-e-Islami approves will be officially announced as the mayoral candidate of Dhaka.
He said, our candidate will be finalized for the two city corporations of Dhaka. It will be announced very soon. However, the matter has not yet been approved by the central Jamaat-e-Islami. That’s why we have not disclosed the name officially.
Earlier, Sadiq Qayyem was announced as the mayoral candidate of DSCC in the responsible conference of Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat held at the Council Hall of Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) in Kakrail in the capital on Friday morning. Sadiq Qayyim himself was also present at the conference.
