The Chinese Foreign Ministry and diplomatic sources in Dhaka have confirmed that the visit will discuss multifaceted issues of interest between the two countries. In particular, expanding bilateral trade and investing in new development projects. Cooperation in tackling the global energy crisis and assistance in the defense sector. Chinese technical assistance in Rohingya repatriation issues and water management. During the visit, they will meet with the Minister of Development of China and high-level leaders of the Chinese Communist Party.
After the visit to China, the foreign minister will go directly to New York, USA. The main aim of this journey is to campaign for Bangladesh’s candidate for the post of president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
On May 13, an informal interactive dialogue will be held at the New York headquarters at the invitation of the current President of the United Nations, Annalena Bierbock. There, the candidate of Bangladesh will participate in a direct debate with the candidate of Cyprus.
In this dialogue, the candidates will present their future vision and answer various questions of civil society including member states. The election of the president of the 81st session from the Asia Pacific Group will be held at the United Nations General Assembly on June 2. In the beginning, Palestine gave the candidate, but now Bangladesh and Cyprus are the main contenders for this post.
According to political analysts, the visit to China and the US on the same journey is an expression of the current government’s balanced foreign policy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that this visit will be very fruitful especially to ensure the victory of Bangladesh in the important position of the United Nations.
