Prime Minister Tariq Rahman has called upon the police to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property with all possible means. He made this call at the opening ceremony of Police Week on Sunday (May 10) morning.
The Prime Minister said, everyone has enjoyed your colorful parade so far in the joyful arrangement. To me, it was not just a parade, but an expression of policemen’s discipline, self-respect, sense of responsibility and unwavering commitment towards a better future.
Tareek Rahman said that the current government formed by the people’s verdict is a reflection of the desire of the freedom-loving democracy-loving people of the country after a bloody mass uprising by the students in 2024 in the continuation of the struggle of the anti-fascist movement for more than a decade and a half. The oppressed and oppressed disenfranchised people who have been subjected to numerous attacks and cases over the years want peace and security under the present democratic government.
He said, ensuring the peace and security of the people of the country is most dependent on your activities – i.e. the role of the police. You will try your best to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property. This is the present government’s expectation from you.
The Prime Minister said that the 13th National Parliament election has proved that it is possible for the Bangladesh Police to carry out their duties with efficiency and professionalism. Not only in the country, but also in UN peacekeeping operations, Bangladesh Police is working with efficiency and reputation. Our policemen have set a shining example of professionalism, bravery and humanity in establishing peace, maintaining law and order and protecting human rights in different countries of the world.
The role of women policemen in UN peacekeeping missions has also been internationally acclaimed. So humane behavior of the police is expected not only abroad, but also with the people of the country.
Police week 2026 has started from today with the motto ‘My police, my country, Bangladesh first’. This Police Week will be celebrated till next Wednesday (May 13).
