Minister of Education Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said, “We are far ahead in quantity in the field of education, but we do not know how much is the quality.” So thinking about ‘need basis education’ is the demand of the time.”

He said this while addressing the special guest at the opening ceremony of the day-long national workshop titled ‘Transformation of Higher Education in Bangladesh: Roadmap for Sustainable Excellence’ at Dhaka University’s Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on Tuesday (May 12) morning.

The education minister said that the number of public universities in the country has now increased to 57. Besides, the number of private universities is also more than hundred. However, there is no clear idea about the quality of education in these institutions.

He also said that the government is working on new curriculum and outcome based education system. Once foreign teachers used to come to Bangladesh to teach and foreign students also came to study. Now that position is no more. According to the needs of the time, the education system has to be rearranged.

Prime Minister Tariq Rahman inaugurated the ceremony. The workshop is scheduled to hold five technical sessions throughout the day. In these sessions, various issues including employability of graduates, soft skill development, demand-based education, industry-academia collaboration, global competitiveness, digital transformation, digital literacy, artificial intelligence, teacher skill development, research excellence, internationalization, good governance and quality assurance will be discussed and recommended.
