The storm of intense anger and protest going on across the country due to the brutal rape and murder of a second class student Ramisa Akhtar in Royapallavi has now hit the sports and political arenas as well. Shakib Al Hasan, former successful captain of Bangladesh cricket team and Member of Parliament of Awami League, has taken to social media to demand speedy justice against this demonic murder.
In an emotional post on his verified Facebook page on Thursday (May 21), the star all-rounder strongly condemned Ramisa’s murder and demanded exemplary punishment for the killers.
In a Facebook post, Shakib Al Hasan wrote, “A child’s cry is not just a family’s grief, it is an echo of the failure of the entire society. Those who destroy innocent childhood with atrocities like rape and murder are enemies of humanity. Delaying justice means increasing the courage of injustice. We want speedy and exemplary punishment for Ramisa.”
At the end of the post, he added the hashtag #JusticeForRamisa and urged the countrymen to speak out against this injustice.
After the publication of this post of Shakib Al Hasan, it quickly went viral on social media. In just a few hours, thousands of netizens like, comment and share it and express their solidarity in demanding a speedy trial for Ramisa’s murder.
Sporting and political figures say that when an international figure like Shakib speaks out against this social ill, it will put more pressure on the state to build public opinion against criminals and speed up the process of justice.
Notably, since the information of the main accused Sohel Rana’s political and extremist affiliations in the case of rape and beheading of child Ramisa in Royapallavi, intense anger has been created across the country. Earlier, various social and political organizations including Chhatra Jamiat Bangladesh strongly condemned this incident and demanded the execution of the killer in a special tribunal. This time, the world’s best all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan joined the same demand.
