Power price not increasing up to 75 units: Information Advisor

In the case of customers using electricity from zero to 75 units, the price of electricity will not be increased, said the Prime Minister’s Information

In the case of customers using electricity from zero to 75 units, the price of electricity will not be increased, said the Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr. Zaheed Ur Rahman. This decision will directly benefit the lower and lower-middle class consumers of the country.

He gave this information at a joint press conference organized on Saturday (June 6) at the secretariat on the electricity and energy situation of the country.

In the press conference, the information advisor said that although the price of electricity has been increased through the hearing of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC), a large part will remain out of it due to the special decision of the government. In the case of about 65 percent of the consumers of the country, the price of electricity will not increase, but the previous price will remain the same.

At the same press conference, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said that the current government has to bear the burden of various crimes committed by the previous government including corruption and money laundering.

Expressing confidence to bring the country out of the cycle of money laundering and corruption, the minister said, besides bringing the country out of the cycle of corruption, the present government is working tirelessly to establish hundred percent transparency and accountability in the governance of the state.

Zahir Uddin Swapan blamed the previous policy behind the current crisis in the power sector and said that the previous governments gave more importance to import-dependent policies than domestic production. If at that time a long-term policy towards production rather than leaning towards imports was adopted, then the current critical situation in the power and energy sector would not have arisen today.

In the press conference, the various plans taken by the government to keep the overall energy situation of the country normal and to reduce public suffering were highlighted.
